Born in Leeds, Paul Liburd studied at the London School of Contemporary Dance following which he was a member of London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Irek Mukhamadov & Dancers, Rambert Dance Company and Scottish Ballet as a soloist. On leaving Scottish Ballet, Liburd was a guest artist at Phoenix Dance Theatre, David Hughes Dance Productions and Simon Rice’s Abundance. Liburd represented Great Britain in the 1987 Eurovision Young Dancer of the Year dancing Under Summer choreographed by Robert Cohan. Over more than two decades, Liburd mastered ballet, contemporary dance and Graham based technique and worked as a performer, choreographer and educator, dancing with Christopher Bruce, Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Wayne McGregor, Twyla Tharp, Hans van Manen, Paul Taylor, Ohad Naharin, Rafael Bonachela, William Forsythe, Ashley Page, Stephen Petronio, Krzysztof Pastor and Richard Alston. He has been the recipient of the Cosmopolitan/Scholl Award (1985), the BBC Yorkshire Black Achievers Award (1992), Critic’s Circle Award for Outstanding Male Dancer (Contemporary, 2004), The Dancing Times Award for Best Male Dancer). Liburd holds a diploma from the British Ballet Organization (BBO DTLLS). At present, he is teaching faculty at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance and London Studio Centre.
