Subathra Subramaniam is Akademi’s Artistic Director and Joint CEO and a choreographer and educator working at the confluence of dance, culture and science. She started her Bharatanatyam training in Malaysia and continued in the UK, later taking the challenging role as artistic director of two South Asian dance companies – Angika and Sadhana Dance. She creates work for theatres, festivals and alternative spaces in collaboration with artists, performers, scientists and academic institutions.
