Indian-born actress, food writer and broadcaster who transformed Western understandings of Indian cuisine. Her debut cookbook, An Invitation to Indian Cooking (1973), is now a classic and was inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Cookbook Hall of Fame. Jaffrey went on to publish over a dozen acclaimed cookbooks, host pioneering television series such as Madhur Jaffrey’s Indian Cookery (1982) and write the memoir Climbing the Mango Trees (2006). Also, an award-winning actress, she received a CBE in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2022 for her cultural contributions.
