William Tweedie was a member of the Temperance movement and published a number of antislavery documents of which the most famous was the best seller Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom: The Escape of William and Ellen Craft from Slavery by Ellen and William Craft, written by slaves who ran to England. It was a best seller. The original along with various correspondence is currently in the Bodleian Library.
