Fairfield House
Fairfield House was home to Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia, during the five years he spent in exile in Bath. To show his gratitude, in 1958 he donated the building to the city as a residence for the elderly. It is now home to BEMSCA – Bath Ethnic Minorities Senior Citizens Association.
Hallam is the oldest black person we know to have come to Bath in the early 1950s. He and his wife Ursuline built a community that many call home. He is the founding member of Rainbow Steel Band, the oldest in the UK, which is recognised worldwide.
