This is a figurine of Lord Ganesha, gifted to me by my family. Ganesha is the godhead of our clan, my father’s name being Kanasamoorthy (misspelling which is a common case in the South Asian diaspora). The Tamil name for Ganesha is Pillaiyar which literally means ‘child god’, which instantly made him my favourite. He is the remover of obstacles and invoked at the start of any endeavour. The storyteller in me is forever intrigued by the mythologies of the many ways in which he acquired his elephant head.
