Colin Prescod is a celebrated documentary filmmaker, sociologist, activist and academic. He was the BBC Television commissioning editor. He is currently the chair of the Institute of Race Relations and on the editorial committee of the ‘Race and Class’ journal. In 1982, he directed a four-part documentary for Channel 4 called Struggles for Black Community. He then joined the BBC and became a commissioning editor and head of the African Caribbean unit in the early nineties. Prescod influenced and encouraged shows which included Black people and showcased their lives and experiences. His mother was Pearl Prescod, an actress and singer who was also a creative pioneer.
