Earl Cameron was a trailblazing actor and became one of the first Black film stars in Britain. Spanning both television and film, Cameron’s career included appearances in the 1956 drama A Man From The Sun and the BBC drama The Dark Man, both of which explored experiences of racism. In addition, he featured in many seminal television shows, including Doctor Who, where he was potentially one of the first Black actors to play an astronaut on television. Through his pioneering roles, Cameron became a significant influence on British television. He died aged 102 in 2020.
