Meera Syal is a trail-blazing writer, actor, and comedian. She rose to fame after co-creating and starring in Goodness Gracious Me, a sketch comedy show that aired from 1996 to 2001. This was significant to British Asian culture and the representation of Asians on British television, as one of the first mainstream British Asian sketch shows. Meera Syal has been awarded a BAFTA fellowship. She has also worked on other TV shows about British South Asians, such as Life Isn’t all Ha Ha Hee Hee (based on her book of the same name), and was in The Kumars at No. 42.
