Michael Abbensetts
Michael Abbensetts was a highly influential writer. He was best known as a playwright and was the first Black British playwright to be commissioned to write a television drama, Empire Road. Empire Road ran from 1978 to 1979 and was the first British television series to have a predominantly Black cast and writing team. Abbensetts was also a member of the production company, Penumbra Productions, with other notable Black creatives, such as Horace Ové, Lindsay Barrett and Mustapha Matura. Abbensetts continued to write for television until he died in 2016.
